Route over seven road miles

The upper remote gate produces 10.

Pattern

An illustrative route measures 7.4 road miles. The distance rule gives 10, Remote. Any station-type adjustment remains capped at 10.

Labeled arithmetic

This example is illustrative. Distance gates run first: above 7 road miles gives base 10, and above 5 road miles gives base 9. At 5 miles or less, estimated time gives base 1 at 3 minutes or less, 2 at 4, 3 at 5, 4 at 6, 5 at 7, 6 at 8, 7 at 10, and 8 above 10 minutes. A volunteer signal in the public station name adds one, capped at 10. Strong covers 1 through 3, Adequate covers 4 through 6, Limited covers 7 through 8, and Remote covers 9 through 10. Lower is stronger. The pattern above identifies its inputs, governing base rule, type adjustment, and final band.

Counterfactual

Change only one governing input before comparing outcomes. Moving a route across 5 miles switches from time to base 9. Moving across 7 miles switches to base 10. Adding a volunteer name signal changes the base by one, capped at 10. These counterfactuals explain mechanics and do not predict a neighboring property.

What the pattern does not prove

Protection excludes hydrants, water supply and flow, building construction, sprinklers, alarms, apparatus, detailed staffing, mutual aid, live dispatch, current traffic, and incident conditions. It cannot predict response or loss. A station name signal is a heuristic and does not certify staffing. It also cannot create one result for a city, county, or ZIP. Real routing requires a complete US street address.

Use the methodology for exact bucket edges, the drive-time and road-miles guide for routing, and the glossary for defined terms.

Next step

Check a US street address to calculate its own miles, minutes, and station-name signal.

Result-reading check

A sound explanation names the governing base rule before the final band. It also states that lower is stronger and keeps excluded facts separate. This short check prevents an illustrative pattern from being mistaken for a property lookup.

The upper gate controls this case completely.

Check Protection for a specific property

Protection is calculated for a US street address from routed station distance, drive time, and station type. Area inventories provide context but do not receive a Protection number.
